The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office in cooperation with the Kansas Army National Guard, Wichita Crime Commission and Big Brothers & Big Sisters of Sedgwick County will be conducting the 15th Annual Leaders, Achievers, & Winners (LAW) Camp from approximately
12:00 noon, Tuesday July 20, 2010 to approximately 12:00 noon, Friday, July 23, 2010 at Lake
Afton County Park.

The mission of law camp is to create a partnership between law enforcement and youth by
providing a positive experience using law enforcement personnel as role models, building self
esteem, confidence and trust by involving the participants in activities that stimulate positive
behavior. One hundred and fifty area youth, ages 11 to 15, have been selected to attend this
year’s camp.

Law camp is a partnership involving over 25 public and private sector organizations. Sheriff Bob
Hinshaw says, “The partnership and long term commitment from our community partners is
invaluable and shows how important law camp is to the youth in this area.”

According to Susan Addington, Koch Industries, Inc. Community Relations Manager, “Koch
Industries has sponsored the Leaders, Achievers & Winners Camp since 1996. It is a unique
program that provides the opportunity for young people to build character and self esteem, while
interacting in a positive way with the role models from the law enforcement community.”

Highlights include a deputy led martial arts demonstration with youth participation on Tuesday,
July 20th starting at 1:00 P.M, various activities including wall climbing, canoeing, fishing, and
swimming throughout the daytime hours on Wednesday and Thursday, a BBQ hosted by Mayor
Carl Brewer on Thursday, July 22nd at 6:00 P.M., followed at 8:00 P.M. by a gang awareness
