Flint Hills Pine Bend Refinery Receives Wastewater Treatment Award

Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery received a Minnesota Wastewater Treatment Facility Operational Award on Thursday from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA).

“This award is a great testament to our employees who work hard every day to maintain the highest environmental standards for our operations,” said Scott Lindemann, vice president and manufacturing manager at Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery.

Pine Bend received the award at the MPCA’s 74th annual Wastewater Operations Conference in Brooklyn Park.

In addition to this award, Pine Bend recently received the Governor’s Award of Honor from the Minnesota Safety Council and the Meritorious Safety Performance Award from the National Petrochemical and Refiners Association. Pine Bend earned recertification as a Minnesota Star (MNSTAR) worksite from the Minnesota Department of Labor and Industry in 2008.

On other environmental fronts, Pine Bend has reduced emissions by 71% since 1997, and its air emissions are 61% lower per barrel than the industry average. Pine Bend also continues to lead the industry in flare management. The refinery has reduced flaring time by 80% since 2003.
