Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery recently gave a $65,000 grant to Ducks Unlimited to help protect and restore the habitat for waterfowl and other wildlife in Minnesota. The donation was presented yesterday at the Ducks Unlimited Capitol Chapter Dinner in Saint Paul. Since 2007, Pine Bend has contributed $235,000 to Ducks Unlimited.
Ducks Unlimited, a nonprofit that conserves waterfowl habitats in Minnesota and throughout North America, will use the donation to develop the next generation of high-priority shallow lake enhancement projects. Specifically, the organization will complete bio-engineering analysis projects in wildlife management areas in Big Stone, Cottonwood, Jackson, Martin and Otter Tail counties.
“We are proud to support the important work Ducks Unlimited does to preserve and protect our state’s natural habitat,” said Scott Lindemann, vice president and manufacturing manager at Flint Hills Resources Pine Bend refinery. “Ducks Unlimited is a true champion of the outdoors.”
The Pine Bend refinery has partnered with Ducks Unlimited for the past 16 years. Contributions from the refinery have helped Ducks Unlimited evaluate and manage more than 36,000 acres of wild rice on 116 lakes in northern Minnesota, restore and enhance eight large shallow lakes totaling 6,000 acres, and permanently protect, with voluntary conservation easements, 1.5 miles of sensitive shoreline and 202 acres of wetlands and grasslands.
