A $1,434 donation received today from Koch Nitrogen Company, LLC will help enhance the response capabilities of the Huntington County Hazardous Materials Team.
The department will use the donation to purchase four bone conduction ear microphones to enable better communication with and between their team members responding to emergencies.
“Communication is critical during a response and can be difficult with our heavy protective clothing and breathing equipment,” said Brandon Taylor, director of the Huntington County Emergency Management Agency. “Thanks to Koch Nitrogen, we can make this important addition to our gear to help protect our firefighters and improve our effectiveness.”
“We are grateful for the dedication of the fire department and other local response agency personnel,” said Koch Nitrogen Company Area Leader, Brett Coughlin. “We appreciate their collaboration with local industry and are happy to do what we can to help them keep our community safe.”
Koch Nitrogen operates an anhydrous ammonia fertilizer terminal in Huntington. The company’s prior support for local public-safety capabilities includes $2,000 in 2008 to purchase confined-space and rope rescue equipment and $2,500 in 2006 to help purchase an additional rescue response vehicle.
