Houston – Flint Hills Resources has donated a truckload of Quilted Northern® bath tissue to The Bridge Over Troubled Waters (The Bridge), the 8th largest crisis center and shelter in Texas, serving southeast Harris County for the last 37 years. The donation is worth more than $40,000.
The universal necessity arrived yesterday via an 18-wheeler at The Bridge’s doorstep in Pasadena, Texas, just a few miles from Flint Hills Resources’ Houston facility. The Bridge assists and shelters women, children and men in crisis, serving approximately 20,000 people each year.
Becky Kyles, The Bridge’s Associate Director of Development said, “This donation is greatly appreciated and will help thousands of people. ‘Giving back’ is a lot more than writing checks, it’s becoming a partner, a friend, and pitching in when it matters most. We are proud to have a neighbor like Flint Hills Resources with such a giving attitude and willingness to step in and offer exactly what we have asked for.”
Flint Hills Resources employees lend a helping hand at a number of events that benefit local non-profit organizations that help empower others. The Flint Hills Resources Houston leadership team recently volunteered at The Bridge on the first day of school.
“When we toured The Bridge’s facility, they said very candidly that bath tissue was something that most people don’t think to donate but it is definitely needed. We saw an opportunity to help because our sister company, Georgia-Pacific, makes bath tissue,” said James Rhame, Flint Hills Resources Houston facility site manager. “We are honored to be able to help our neighbor meet the needs of the community.”
